This tiny community is located in McDonald Township (population 895). It was established in 1883, when a post office was opened under the name of Jumbo. Jumbo was the name of a huge African circus elephant that was killed that year in a Canadian train wreck. Throughout the early years there was a thriving grocery store and cider mill. After WWII, the grocery store contained a beauty shop, small restaurant, and showed movies on Saturday night for area young people. The grocery store burned down in 1960.
